Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Salary & Benefits: £45 p/h on a 6 month contract
Our Client; a Globally operating Tier 1 Automotive company that specializes in the supply and manufacture of high technology electrical and electronic components, supplying most of the major Automotive OEM’s, are enjoying continued growth in terms of new projects. Given this rise in new business, their task now is to find an experienced Senior Hardware Design Engineer on a 6 month contract basis with the possibility of extension, to work within their Electronic Instrumentation Business Unit.

Reporting to the European Hardware Engineering Manager, you will take responsibility for the following:

-To design and develop electronic and instrumentation products for the Automotive market that meet quality standard and profitability targets.
-To provide Hardware Support for European customers and the European Company engineering teams.
-To continuously research, report and document the trends for electronics in the European Automotive market.
-To develop Hardware for products/demonstration samples that can be used as marketing tools for demonstrating my Client’s capability/experience or for evaluating new technologies.
-The department shall, where suitable in regards to resources, equipment, experience etc..., provide my Client’s European sales offices with technical support for RFQ’s, exhibitions, workshops and similar types of activities.

Additional responsibilities will include:

- Concept analysis and main component identification
- Specification and DFMEA writing and creation
- Block diagram drafting
- Schematic capture and layout
- Risk analysis
- Thermal analysis
- HW/SW interface management
- HW/Mechanical interface management
- BOM cost analysis and optimisation
- Prototype parts sourcing
- Management of prototype assembly
- Prototype debugging and testing
- Test report writing

Qualifications and Experience ideally required:

-Should ideally be educated to Degree level in Electronics Engineering, better still possess a Master’s Degree in Electronics, although lesser qualifications and plenty of relevant experience may be considered.
-Should have held Design responsibility for a minimum of 3 Hardware Electronic developments from concept through to mass production or perhaps better still held Design responsibility for a minimum of 1 Hardware Electronic developments in either Automotive Instrument Cluster design or Body Electronics design, from concept through to mass production.
-You will have extensive experience with Automotive manufacturing and Automotive qualification/validation requirements.
-Ideally able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills (analytical)
-Excellent knowledge of electronics component market cost levels (design to cost) needed.
-Excellent knowledge of hardware design tools for Schematic capture and simulation (preferably Mentor Graphics Expedition Flow and Hyperlynx).
-Excellent EMC field understanding and best layout practice for EMC compliance.
-Very good knowledge of thermal management of power electronic devices at PCB level.
-Good understanding of electronics software design and of mechanical design.
-Excellent understanding of electronics manufacturing (design for manufacturing, design for testing)
-Excellent knowledge of PCB layout (Cadence Allegro Layout preferred).
-Excellent knowledge of microprocessor for embedded applications.
-Excellent knowledge of LCD and display technologies.
-Knowledge of PCB, Smart MOSFET and LED technologies required.
-Knowledge of communication protocols for the Automotive market (e.g. CAN, J1850, LIN etc).
